Greystone Golf & Country Club is known for excellence in golf instruction, including the Blackburn Golf Academy at Greystone, which helps player development in all ages and skill levels. We strive to create the best place for them to learn, practice, and thrive in the sport they love, from first-timers to the many PGA TOUR players who call Greystone home.
Mark Blackburn, co-founder of Blackburn Golf Academy, says that while most of the players have their own personal swing coach, the players are able to take advantage of Greystone’s practice range to sharpen their competitive skills. "Everybody's got a lot of talent and ability," Blackburn says.
The Rees Jones designed Legacy Course, which was fully updated in 2022, boasts one of the finest short-game facilities you’ll find anywhere in the country. It includes a putting green that is almost 8,000 square feet, a dedicated area to practice pitch shots from greenside up to 50 yards out, and course-like bunkers to hone your sand wedge work.
These professional golfers below have developed a mutual relationship with the Club, and many are Alabama natives. They appreciate the opportunity to play 7 days a week and choose between the two Championship courses—Legacy and Founders.
"They're all very receptive to being involved with the Club, and giving back to our Members," Blackburn says. Appearing in live instructional and training videos on the course, including swing demonstrations and other helpful pointers, is one of the ways they do that.
Greystone is the proud home of the PGA Tour Champions Regions Tradition held each May at the Founders Course. There’s a long tradition for this event at Greystone and we’re excited it will be with us through at least 2032.
For our non-professional Members, Greystone hosts many tournaments with all different format types throughout the year; individual, Member/Member, Member/Guest. Members have no trouble finding other players they enjoy casual rounds with regularly as well.
When COVID hit and professional tournaments were postponed, Greystone created the inaugural Wolf/Snake Cup, held June 1-2, 2020, on the Legacy Course. Each year this event brings together almost all of Greystone's PGA TOUR players who split up to form the Wolf and Snake Teams. The tournament bolsters camaraderie at Greystone and is a great chance for Members to see some world-class players compete close-up.
"They love to play at Greystone,” says Blackburn. “They've got somewhere they can ride a cart and play as many holes as possible."
