Intentional Moments: How the Hoaglands Turn Busy Fall Days into Lasting Memories

"Life's hectic, especially in the fall," admits Chase Hoagland, father of four active kids between 5 and 11.

A few years into their Greystone membership, the Hoaglands have learned how to turn their busiest season into their most intentional one.

The Hoaglands know the challenge of managing fall schedules. School starts, sports ramp up, and suddenly summer's freedom feels like a distant memory.

For many families, this transition means less time together and more time running around to different activities.

"But Greystone has become this outlet for our family where we can slow down and actually enjoy the time we have together. The fall is a great time at the club to do exactly that," Chase shares.

For the Hoaglands, membership became the solution to their time management puzzle. Instead of adding stress, it created a new space for connection.

"For us, Greystone is almost like having a vacation at our back door," Chase says. "It's allowed our family to be really intentional with the little bit of free time we have."

Creating Traditions That StickBlog 1

Sunday mornings after church, it's breakfast at the club for the Hoaglands. No phones, no distractions. Just quality time together.

During the week, their routine adapts to each day's demands. Rachel Hoagland might play tennis while the kids attend their golf or tennis lessons. Some days, they grab lunch together between activities. Other evenings, they meet for dinner after practices.

"I'm out playing tennis pretty regularly, and the kids have their golf or tennis lessons in the afternoons," Rachel says. "Depending on our schedules, we might slide to the club for lunch or dinner."

The Hoaglands have watched their children develop confidence, patience, and problem-solving skills through junior programs designed to grow with them.

"The instructors have taught our kids much more than just golf and tennis," Chase notes. "They've taught them how to overcome challenges and have good sportsmanship. We see it outside the club. When we go places, people comment on how well-mannered our children are. While we'd love to take all the credit, Greystone has had an impact on them in that way."

Community Makes the Difference

Neither Chase nor Rachel had grown up in country clubs. They wondered if it would feel too formal or focused solely on golf.

But those thoughts faded away when they got to Greystone.

"I think it really does take a village to raise a child," Chase reflects. "From the beginning, we saw that Greystone is a community. Watching our kids interact with other children and seeing them around like-minded families who want the best opportunities for their kids, it's priceless."

The sense of community grew when they moved into the Greystone neighborhood

"Since we moved here, it's become like part of our everyday life," says Chase. "The kids feel safe, they know people, and we're so close now that if we want to grab dinner or hit the pool, we just hop on the golf cart. It's that simple."

Making Every Season Count

As fall transitions to the holiday season, the Hoaglands' club traditions evolve with the calendar. The fall festival with pumpkin decorating and hayrides gives way to holiday dinners and their children's favorite tradition:

"Seeing Santa at the clubhouse has become our holiday tradition," Chase shares.

For families considering membership but wondering if it's worth it, Chase says, "Come visit and see it firsthand. We had our hesitations since neither of us grew up in country clubs, but once we visited, we saw this was something for everyone."

The Hoaglands have learned that making time for what matters doesn't mean finding more hours in the day. It’s being intentional with the hours you have.

"The club makes it easy to say ‘yes’ to family time," Chase shares.
